Do you trust people?
Trust is the foundation of everything we do.
We trust that the sun will rise tomorrow.
We trust that people will drive on the correct side of the road.
We trust that when we flip the light switch…
The light turns on.
We trust that we will get paid for our work.
We trust that others follow the laws.
Trust is literally embedded in everything we do.
We even trust people to be human.
What does that mean?
It means we know people are going to break laws and do things to break trust.
Society is based on trust and there is a direct connection between trust and the success of a community.
I personally experienced a high level of trust in Dubai.
People literally leave the keys to their exotic cars in them…
And no one touches it.
People return wallets found on the street.
People leave their doors unlocked…
And they have almost zero crime.
I have also been to places that I had to be escorted through because people would steal everything from me.
The economic and financial success in these two extremes were so obvious that you can’t ignore it.
Dubia is one of the wealthiest nations in the world and it also has over 200 different nationalities living there.
The places I had to be escorted through were impoverished and lacked necessities.
So is it as simple as just trusting people?
I don’t think so.
I think it starts with each of us individually becoming trustworthy.
I think it starts off with each of us doing what we say we are going to do.
I think it starts with us creating the foundation of trust so that others will then trust us.
And then we can trust them.
It is so simple yet so complex at the same time.
But the simplicity is do what you said you were going to do.
Then operate with others who do what they said they would do.
Have principles to help guide people in becoming trustworthy.
Teach the children how to build trust and most importantly…
How to restore trust.
Because we are all humans…
And we will all forget or not do something we said.
The key is learning how to continuously build and restore trust.
Because the communities that flourish and have people filled with joy and happiness are communities with a foundation of trust.
There is some great research on the topic called…
The Economics of Trust.
And it clearly identifies all of this across different nations if you are intrigued 😊
Trust me…you will love it 😊
Cheers to another amazing adventure!
